Complete Instructions for Installing a PHPNuke Template

When following the below instructions to install your PHPNuke Template you must already have the PHPNuke CMS installed on your website and you must have downloaded your ThemeStock.com template and have it readily available.

Step 1 in Installing a PHPNuke Template:

The file that you have downloaded from ThemeStock.com will have a file name similar to:


Locate the folder on your hard drive where that template was downloaded to, and extract the zip file with WinZip or another similar extraction program. Extracting the file is typically as simple as right-clicking the file and clicking on "extract to here" as illustrated below:

After you have successfully extracted your files you will have a folder name similar to TS-PHPNuke-TemplateName which will contain 3 subfolders named PSD, HTML, and PHPNukeTemplate as pictured below:

Step 2 in Installing a PHPNuke Template:

Next you will need to load your FTP client. A FTP client is used to transfer files from your computer to your website hosting space. If you do not have a FTP client, some popular choices include:

After your FTP software is downloaded and installed, you will need to contact your website host for specific details on how to connect to your website space.

Once you have  connected to your website space, you will need to FTP to your website and upload the files from your extracted PHPNuke template. In the left window pane, you will need browse to the location where the template was downloaded, which again, will have an extracted folder name similar to:


You will then enter a directory further to:


Once you have entered into the above directory on your hard drive, it is time to transfer your PHPNuke template files to your server. The template folder has a name similar to TS-TemplateName. This directory will need to be uploaded to the themes directory within PHPNuke.

To upload the file, select the TS-TemplateName folder that is stored within the "PHPNukeTemplate" directory and dragging it to the right hand window pane to the themes directory on your server.

After the template has been uploaded to your "themes" directory of PHPNuke, it will appear on both the left and right window panes of your FTP client:

Step 3 in Installing a PHPNukeTemplate:

Now that your PHPNuke Theme has been uploaded, it is time to log into your PHPNuke administration area and activate the template. The URL of your PHPNuke admin will typically be similar to:

You will need to enter your Admin ID and Password into the login boxes. This information would have been set up when your PHPNuke program was first installed. If you do not know this information, you will need to contact your website host or administrator.
Step 4 in Installing a PHPNuke Template:

When you have completed your login, you will be taken to the main page of the PHPNuke administration area. In the center content area, click on the icon labeled "Preferences", which is illustrated with the red arrow shown below:

Step 5 in Installing a PHPNuke Template:

After clicking on the Preferences icon, the page may look the same, however new options will appear lower down on the page. Scroll down on the page until you get to the "Web Site Configuration" section and click on the drop down box next to "Default theme for your site", and select the template name that you uploaded in Step 2 of this tutorial.

After your template has been selected, scroll to the complete bottom of the page. There will be a button labeled "Save Changes" in the "Censure Options" section. Click the Save Changes button.

Step 6 in Installing a PHPNuke Template:

After pressing the Save Changes button above the template will immediately take effect on both the admin and the public website and your new design is installed and ready for admiration!
